The former Manchester United forward netted against the European champions on Wednesday night.
As if going out of the Champions League wasn't bad enough, Manchester United fans now face the prospect of Europa League football and being mocked by Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City supporters.
Indeed, Hernandez found the net for the German side to make it 12 goals in 12 games for the 27-year-old Mexican, even though it wasn't enough for Leverkusen to qualify from the group stages.
Such were the fine margins in Manchester United's group, however, Louis van Gaal could certainly have done with Hernandez's goals and may well have seen his side qualify had they possessed Chicharito's marksmanship.
But LvG has a certain way of doing things and his oft-criticised philosophy, as well as his tendency to rule players completely out of the running and offload them against the wishes of many supporters, has done his popularity at Old Trafford no favours.
Seeing James Wilson score for Brighton in the Championship is one thing - but seeing Hernandez net against Barcelona will have hurt Manchester United fans when their current starting XI is so short of goals. Here's how United fans reacted on Twitter...
Hernandez a player LVG thought he ain't good enough look how he's doing #MUFC— Keep it simple.. (@AB_saeed) December 9, 2015
Add Hernandez to the list of players Van Gaal shouldn't have sold. Scored again tonight for Leverkusen, against Barcelona! #mufc— Jon Glanville (@jonglanville) December 9, 2015
#Mufc We could do with a player like Hernandez ....oh...wait. Run that one past us again LVG, I'm confused.. And increasingly angry— Charlie (@ShambolicMess) December 9, 2015
Hernandez has 12 goals in 11 games with Bayer Leverkusen. While we have Nick Powell to bring on from the bench to rely on for goals. #mufc— Rd (@RichieDriss) December 9, 2015
