Rodney Marsh makes an amusing suggestion about Steve McClaren’s future on Twitter

Steve McClaren

Should Steve McClaren, who guided Newcastle to a surprise win against Liverpool on Sunday, get a new eight-year contract like Alan Pardew did?

Former Queens Park Rangers forward Rodney Marsh has joked on social networking site Twitter that Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren should get a new eight-year contract.

Marsh made the comment during Newcastle’s surprise 2-0 win against Liverpool at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Back in September 2012, Alan Pardew, now at Crystal Palace, signed an eight-year contract extension, as reported by BBC Sport, and the former England international is referring to that.

Marsh’s comment about McClaren is clearly meant as a joke, as there is no way that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is going to hand the Englishman a new contract.

The former Derby County and Nottingham Forest manager was appointed the Newcastle head coach in the summer.

McClaren was expected to guide the Magpies to a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season, but the team are currently fighting for survival in the top flight of English football.
