Leicester are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table, and they have lost only one match all season.
However, Merson believes that their bubble is about to burst, as the Christmas schedule will test their squad.
“No. I don’t think so,” he said, when asked whether Leicester would finish in the top six this season. “I think they are in exactly the same position as Southampton were last year.
“I think they’re in a good position, but if Jamie Vardy got injured, where are they going to score a goal?
"It livens up after Christmas. They’re doing great at the moment, but you’ve got Chelsea coming back into it. I think they will get rolling.
“You lose a few games and the confidence goes. I would be shocked if they got into the top six.”
Leicester are currently nine points clear of sixth placed Crystal Palace, but they have a tough run of fixtures on the horizon.
The Foxes take on Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City in their next four matches, meaning that their title credentials are set to be severely tested.
So far this season, Leicester have stood up to every challenge that has been thrown at them, though, and their good form has shown no sign of relenting.
The Foxes have demolished Newcastle United and Swansea City in their last two away matches, while they also picked up a point against Manchester United in their most recent fixture at the King Power Stadium.
