Moussa Sissoko claims Newcastle United only need more confidence to start winning regularly

St James Park

Newcastle United's season so far has been plagued by inconsistency, leaving them in the relegation zone.

Moussa Sissoko has told the Chronicle that all Newcastle United need to start winning more often is a bit more confidence.

The Magpies are in 18th place in the Premier League table, but a 2-0 win against Liverpool at the weekend has increased optimism levels at St. James’ Park.

Sissoko is hoping that the victory can be the turning point in his side’s season, as he feels that they have more quality that their league position suggests.

“If we can get more confidence then we’ll win more games in the future,” Sissoko said. “I am very happy and very proud of team-mates.

“The last two weeks have been very hard. We have shown some character but we deserved to win against Liverpool to get this victory.”

Newcastle’s season so far has been plagued by inconsistency, with their results being generally poor.

The Magpies have crumbled on numerous occasions – and heavy defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester City recently have raised questions about their squad.

Their win over Liverpool has lifted some of the gloom around the club, though, and there is hope that they can start moving away from trouble now.

Newcastle’s next fixture comes against Tottenham Hotspur, and if they are able to pick up a victory at White Hart Lane, then they could move out of the drop zone.
