After Liverpool’s impressive 6-1 win over Southampton in the Capital One Cup, many were expecting another big display against Newcastle United.
Things transpired differently for Jurgen Klopp’s side though, as the Magpies put in a resolute performance to come away with a vital 2-0 victory and three much needed points.
It was a bad day at the office for the German’s side as a number of his key players failed to turn up in the game in a hugely demoralising defeat for them.
It was not all bad though, as it turns out one of their stars was the better than anyone else in the Premier League in one area this weekend.

Lucas Leiva has enjoyed a return to his best form under Klopp and that continued in the loss to Newcastle, as he won more tackles than any other player in the league this past weekend.
The Brazilian won seven tackles in total against the Magpies, putting him top of that particular statistic.
He also made the joint most tackles of any player with eight to his name, level with Southampton defender Cedric Soares.
An impressive win for Leiva then, who will be hoping he can continue that kind of dominant midfield display in future as his side eye a place in the top four this season.
