Newcastle returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday evening with a 2-0 success over Liverpool at St. James’ Park.
A Martin Skrtel own goal saw the Magpies go ahead in the 69th minute, and a late effort from Georginio Wijnaldum saw the home team pick up all three points.
“I think both the players and the manager have to take a lot of credit,” said former Arsenal striker Wright on the BBC 5 live 606 on Sunday evening when asked if the Newcastle win was down to McClaren. “I think Steve is starting to hit the nail on the head.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes at St. James’ Park, hosts Newcastle had 40% of the possession, took six shots of which only one was on target, and earned just two corners.
The Magpies are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 13 points from 15 matches, level on points with 17th-place Bournemouth, who are ahead on goal difference.
Newcastle are back in action this coming Sunday when they take on North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur away from home at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
