Everton's John Stones set to be a superstar, believes Kevin Kilbane

The young Everton defender was impressive again in their draw with Crystal Palace.

Former Everton star Kevin Kilbane has told BBC Sport that defender John Stones is set to be a superstar in the future.

The defender has enjoyed a rapid rise under Roberto Martinez since he took charge, becoming a regular in the side and impressing.

He is highly rated by everyone, with his top quality displays in the heart of Everton’s defence having garnered praise from all angles.

Indeed, he is reportedly being targeted by a number of big clubs, with Chelsea having been turned away in the summer, and Kilbane believes he is set to be a superstar in future.

“John Stone's anticipation is ahead of the attackers', ahead of the play, and I'm a huge admirer,” he told BBC Sport.

“He's been a huge plus since he broke through into the side. You watch him closely; he's anticipating where the midfielder is going to pass the ball. He's going to be a superstar.”

Given the player that Stones is already, and the talent he still has to fulfil, it is hard to see Everton ever being willing to sell him in future.

He is already a firm member of their first team, with increased game time in the Premier League continuing to aid his rapid development.

Himself, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, and potentially Gerard Deulofeu are fast becoming the spine of an impressive Everton team, and the Blues would be loathe to lose a key member at any stage.

Money can talk though, as has been demonstrated before, and it will be interesting to see if big money offers from the world’s elite prove tempting down the line.
