Everton missed an opportunity to climb above rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
In form Romelu Lukaku scored again, but perhaps of even more satisfaction was the performance of returning midfielder Tom Cleverley.
Cleverley had been out of action through injury until recently, returning against Bournemouth a week ago before featuring in last week's Capital One Cup quarter-final against Middlesbrough, but this was his first Premier League start since August.
The 26-year-old made the most of filling in for James McCarthy, showing signs that he is enjoying his football again.
Once though of as a promising England prospect, Cleverley fought his way into the Manchester United first team, but when the Red Devils faltered under David Moyes, his performances suffered and his confidence dipped after he was scapegoated by fans.
Last season he began to rebuild his confidence on loan at Aston Villa, but elected to join Everton permanently instead in the summer.
Cleverley almost scored against Palace, denied by a superb save from Wayne Hennessey, while he also went on to create two goalscoring chances for his teammates.
His performance emphasises the strength in depth Everton have in midfield, and if Roberto Martinez can get him to perform like this consistently, and even improve, then an England recall is not out of the question, if not this season then in the future.
Here is a look at how supporters reacted to his performance...
