West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to predict that Martin Samuelsen could become as good as Hammers legend Trevor Brooking.
Samuelsen, 18, left Manchester City over the summer in order to sign for West Ham, and fans were certainly excited by his performances during pre-season.
The Norwegian playmaker produced a number of impressive performances before the start of the season, but manager Slaven Bilic has so far chosen not to use his teenage sensation in Premier League games, instead choosing to let him grow and develop before throwing him in to the action.
Now, Samuelsen has been farmed out to League One club Peterborough United on loan until January, with West Ham clearly hoping he can gain some valuable first-team experience during his time with Graham Wrestley's men.
However, Samuelsen was in the West Ham Under-21 side on Monday night, and he helped his side beat West Brom 2-1 with a late winning goal.
The Hammers were given permission to play Samuelsen in that game, and co-chairman Gold took to Twitter to clarify that the youngster is still on loan at Peterborough despite playing for the Under-21's.
Gold also predicted that Samuelsen could be as good as West Ham legend Trevor Brooking, who racked up almost 650 appearances for the Hammers, in what is certainly a bold comparison.
Martin Samuelsen is on loan at Posh, I still believe he is going to be a player. Its possible he could be as good as Sir Trevor Brooking. dg— David Gold (@davidgold) December 7, 2015
Samuelsen obviously has a long way to go before he can truly be compared to Brooking, but judging by his performances in pre-season and in the Under-21 side, he certainly has a bright future ahead of him at Upton Park.
