Liverpool suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat to Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The Reds headed into the game as favourites, but they failed to produce a good performance.
Newcastle legend Shearer has suggested on Coral.co.uk that Jurgen Klopp’s side did not take their opponents seriously enough.
“It looked like Liverpool thought they just had to turn up and they’d win the game, which was great for Newcastle as they took advantage of that,” the former England international striker has written on Coral.co.uk. “The energy that Liverpool had shown in previous games simply wasn’t there for them.”
It will be interesting to see how Liverpool bounce back from the defeat to Newcastle.
The Merseyside outfit are very much in the running for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season, but all talks of challenging for the title should now stop.
Klopp’s side have bounced back from a loss before, and Liverpool fans will hope that they do the same now.
The Reds will face FC Sion away from home in the Europa League Group B on Thursday evening before taking on West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
