Rio Ferdinand gushes over table topping Leicester City in Twitter video message

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has had his say on table topping Leicester City's continued heroics in the Premier League.

The Foxes have lost just twice in 24 Premier League games either side of the summer and continue to defy the odds with their incredible run of form, annihilating Swansea City 3-0 last time out.

Riyad Mahrez stepped out of a Jamie Vardy-shaped shadow to bag a hat-trick and keep Leicester fans in dreamland.

Vardy may not have scored for a record 12th game in succession but he was still crucial to his side's latest victory.

It is frightening to think the Foxes had just 10 points at this stage last season.

'No-one knows what's going on?'

Now, almost halfway through the new campaign they are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League and being backed to stay there by none other than Rio Ferdinand, legend at - dare we say title rivals? - Manchester United.

"The Premier League this year? No-one knows what's going on," Ferdinand said in a BreatheSport video message posted on his Twitter.

"Leicester City top of the league in December?

"Who would have thought it at the beginning of the season?

"Jamie Vardy in unbelievable form, these boys look like they're enjoying it up there so long may that continue."

Reality check on the way?

Many fans and pundits have pointed to Leicester's forthcoming fixtures to provide the reality check many thought would have come much sooner.

It is true that Claudio Ranieri's men now face a daunting run of games - they play Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester City in succession - but which of those teams would want to play the Foxes right now?

Chelsea's struggles are there for the world to see, Everton may actually provide the stiffest test but are no world beaters, Liverpool are consistently inconsistent and City just cannot get going this season.

Ranieri maintains his position that 40 points is the objective, as reported by the likes of the Daily Mail.

But such talk is bordering on the absurd. That's how good Leicester have been this season.
