The Saints have assembled a talented group of attackers at St. Mary’s, and their front-three have caused a number of defences problems throughout the campaign.
Although Villa were able to fend off many of Southampton’s attacks, and they claimed a 1-1 draw in the fixture, Garde was still impressed by the host’s threat going forward.
“We suffered a lot, we were under pressure,” he said. “They have pace, have powerful attacking players. It was difficult for us. It’s a good point for us.”
In truth, had Southampton been more clinical they may have ended up beating Villa, and inflicting further misery on the Midlands club.
Ronald Koeman’s side were guilty of missing a number of presentable opportunities in the contest, but Villa will still be pleased to grab a point.
The Claret and Blues showed good resilience at St. Mary’s, and they were very close to claiming the victory.
Joleon Lescott had given Garde’s team a lead to protect, but a late Oriol Romeu strike denied them their chance of the claiming the three points.
Villa are still sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table as things stand, while Southampton are in 12th place.
