The former Newcastle midfielder has heaped praise on the 25-year-old after his impressive display against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Wijnaldum starred against Liverpool, scoring once and also claiming to have opened the scoring even if some feel it went down as a Martin Skrtel own goal.
But it's hardly the first time the Dutchman has shone at St James' Park - the Newcastle man scored four in one game against Norwich City earlier this season.
Barton is naturally impressed, with the Burnley midfielder stating on Match of the Day Two: "He was their star player and he has been a lot this season. He showed class, got his team-mates on the ball and got into the box.
"He got a bit of luck [for the first goal] and that’s what you need. He finished his second goal like a seasoned pro."
Newcastle certainly seem to have signed a gem over the summer in Wijnaldum and, the odd quite performance aside, he has been the Magpies' leading light.
The only other two players who have come out with any consistent credibility are Ayoze Perez and Chancel Mbemba - but Wijnaldum's impact has been plentiful and very tangible at the same time.
The 25-year-old has netted seven Premier League goals so far this term, setting himself apart from his team-mates on Tyneside. Now for some of Newcastle's other forwards to chip in more in front of goal themselves.
