Don Hutchison reacts on Twitter to Newcastle win, makes very encouraging statement

The Magpies beat Liverpool 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Don Hutchison was naturally pleased to see his beloved Newcastle United beat Liverpool 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, the former Liverpool midfielder but Newcastle fan highlighted three qualities shown by Steve McClaren's men at St James' Park that simply haven't been shown enough at other times this season.

But Hutchison also made a very encouraging statement for Magpies fans that stands to reason.

Indeed, on paper, Hutchison believes Newcastle actually possess a very good squad - which also extends to their substitutes' bench.

It's a good point - and a fair assessment. It begs the question of what Newcastle's squad have been playing at so far this season but, against bigger teams, that squad has turned up.

Ayoze Perez, Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and even Fabricio Coloccini are, on paper, right up there alongside other top Premier League players.

Coloccini, in particular, has fallen woefully short of the standards he is capable of over the past few months. Whatever McClaren said to his Newcastle players ahead of the Liverpool match, though, his influence finally came to the fore at St James' Park.

If the Magpies could just maintain those standards, relegation - on paper - should not even be an issue.
