Danny Murphy comments on Sunderland’s survival chances after Arsenal defeat

Sunderland suffered a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy said on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (December 5) that Sunderland will not get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Murphy made his prediction following the Black Cats’ 3-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in North London in the league on Saturday afternoon.

“Much more encouraging,” said the former England international when asked about Sunderland’s performance against Arsenal on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (December 5).

“I actually thought they played better today than in certain games I have seen them win. They were organised, they made chances.

“They had a bit of bad luck actually and poor finishing. More performances like that, and I think they will be fine.”

Despite the defeat to Arsenal, Sunderland can take positives from the performance and the effort put in by the players.

Arsene Wenger’s side had to work really hard to pick up all the three points, and that tells the story about Sam Allardyce’s side.

The Black Cats are still in danger of going down, though, as they are just second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment.

Sunderland have picked up just 12 points from 15 matches, but they are just a point behind Norwich City and Bournemouth, who are 16th and 17th respectively.
