Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on December 5th, that Ciaran Clark makes rash errors whenever he is in an Aston Villa shirt.
The Claret and Blues have been poor defensively this season, and Clark has been short of his best.
Nicholas says that when Clark represents his country he has proven he is a solid defender, but the former Scotland international has questioned why the centre-back cannot do the same when pulling on a Villa shirt.
“I look at player like Ciaran Clark. When he plays for the Republic of Ireland and he looks top class,” Nicholas said.
“He plays for Villa, and he makes bog-standard mistakes. He’s rash in his decision making. It’s as if there’s not been anybody learning anything.”
Clark has made 10 appearances for Villa this season, but he was dropped for their latest match against Southampton.
After a poor showing in a 3-2 defeat to Watford, it seems that Remi Garde has lost patience in the 26-year-old and he wasn’t included in the match day squad at St. Mary’s.
Villa were able to pick up a 1-1 draw against the Saints, meaning that Clark now faces a fight to win his place in the team back.
Clark is not the only Villa player who has been short of form this season.
The Claret and Blues have not won any of their last 14 Premier League matches, and not many of their current squad can look back on their showings with pride this season.
