Christian Benteke's uninspired performance for Liverpool against Newcastle saw him lambasted by fans, unsure of his suitability for Jurgen Klopp's side.
Benteke did not manage a shot on target during Liverpool's limp display, lasting an hour before being substituted for Daniel Sturridge.
He is showing little sign of improving since signing from Aston Villa - which is not to write him off, purely to observe that he is still the same player he was when he was signed.
He lacks the mobility of a Sturridge, and is reliant on service and quality wing play, two things Liverpool could not provide at St. James' Park.
Meanwhile his former club Aston Villa continue to languish at the bottom of the Premier League, with the £32 million they received for his services proving so far to be of little benefit.
They have only six points from their opening 15 games, in which they have scored only 11 times. Benteke to his credit has four goals in 13 Premier League games for Liverpool, nine of which have been starts.
The match against Newcastle was a chance for Benteke to do his old club a favour against their relegation rivals, but the backlash against his performance had Villa fans joking they would take him back if he is not wanted at Anfield.
Here is a look at the reaction to his display...
Liverpool fans slating Benteke !yes we would gladly have him back shame it won't happen #AVFC— Nigel Moore ⚽️ (@Moorski7) December 6, 2015
Liverpool fans want rid of Benteke already!? I'd have him back in a heart beat!! #avfc— Mini Beest (@mini_beest) December 6, 2015
Exactly as Villa fans predicted, it didn't take scousers long to turn on Benteke. If only we still had him we wouldn't be in this mess #avfc— VillaPove (@VillaPove) December 6, 2015
Very unlikely, but if Klopp doesn't rate Benteke, would a January loan be possible/welcomed? #avfc— Andy_avfc (@Andy__avfc) December 6, 2015
