According to the agent of Napoli star Jorginho, Arsenal are interested in his client and have already sent scouts to watch him ahead of the January transfer window, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb.
The Brazilian midfielder has been one of Napoli’s standout players this season, starting in 10 Serie A fixtures and helping his side top the table ahead of the upcoming winter break.
Predominantly a holding midfielder, the 23-year-old has bags of potential and is already playing at a top level, seemingly attracted the interests of the Gunners.
“One of Arsenal’s head scouts is well-known and so I know he was at Marassi during a recent Napoli encounter, but right now we aren’t thinking about that,” the player’s agent told Radio CRC.
Considering Arsenal’s current injury crisis, Jorginho would make a very good January addition.
Regular midfielder Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla have been ruled out for up to three months each with knee ligament damage, leaving Arsene Wenger short on alternatives.
While the club have generally strayed away from making big January deals, Wenger may finally be called into action as a failure to add one or two players could seriously derail their season.
Jorginho isn’t exactly a tough-tackling midfielder in the mould of Coquelin, yet he provides plenty of energy and his ball-playing skills and possession game is somewhat comparable to Cazorla.
Arsenal must seriously consider making a move for him, though if they have any real intentions of signings they ought to start making them clear now as January may even be too late.
According to a report by Gianluca di Marzio, Jorginho is currently in the midst of negotiations over a new contract and talks are said to be going well.
While the Gunners can’t sign anybody now, they certainly can put the groundwork in ahead of a January deal and they may live to regret passing up the opportunity to sign Jorginho if they don’t act quickly.
