Aston Villa and Southampton shared a point apiece this weekend.
Aston Villa could not get a much needed victory this weekend but they did at least avoid defeat as they drew 1-1 with Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday.
Defender Joleon Lescott opened the scoring shortly before half time, but midfielder Oriol Romeu became the second unlikely goal-scorer of the day, equalising in the 73rd minute.
That was how the score remained and while it left Villa bottom of the Premier League table with just six points from a possible 45, there were at least signs of a potential upturn in form.
One particularly pleasing sight was the return to action of centre-back Jores Okore, who was making his first senior appearance of the campaign following a knee operation.
Fit and on-form, Okore is arguably Villa’s best defender and he wasted little time getting down to business against the Saints.
In the months ahead Okore is likely to play a key role in Villa’s fight against relegation and it is now up to manager Remi Garde to decide what his best centre-back pairing is considering the options now available to him.
After the match against Southampton we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Okore’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Really good seeing Okore back in team, if he stays fit he can be great CB. Do we go for Okore & Lescott/Clarke at CB & Richards at RB? #avfc— Ben Cadwallader (@caddymation) December 5, 2015
Great to see okore back, our best centre half— Monty Williamson (@Montyfw99) December 5, 2015
Sanchez and Okore looked superb today...the rest were pretty much the same.— Ja'Crispy Oakley (@Gazoaks) December 5, 2015
Villa look so much better with Lescott, Richards and Okore at the back— Kai. (@ozrikk) December 5, 2015
