Newcastle United recorded a much-needed victory this evening having beaten Liverpool 2-0 at St. James' Park thanks to heroics from Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Magpies were thumped 5-1 by Crystal Palace last weekend, and that result had piled the pressure on manager Steve McClaren having won just twice so far this season.
Sitting second bottom at kick off, few Newcastle fans were feeling optimistic as they took on Jurgen Klopp's resurgent Liverpool outfit.
Yet, in keeping with the rest of the Premier League season so far, the result didn't go with the form guide as Newcastle stunningly beat Liverpool 2-0.
After a cagey first half, Newcastle took the lead as Wijnaldum's goal-bound shot was diverted in to his own net by Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.
The Reds rallied to try and get back in to the game, but after Alberto Moreno saw his goal ruled out, Newcastle sealed the win in injury time.
A breakaway was started by Moussa Sissoko, and after the Frenchman shrugged off Moreno's challenge, he laid the ball across to Wijnaldum, whose cheeky clip went over goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and in to the net.
The result means Newcastle have now moved up in to 18th place, whilst Liverpool sit seventh with 23 points to their name.
