Tottenham round-up: Newcastle to bid £10m for Townsend; Pochettino to build squad around Lloris

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur could not take full advantage of Manchester United’s draw and Manchester City’s defeat this weekend, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side drew 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Dele Alli opened the scoring for Spurs but the Baggies equalised when James McClean found the net shortly before half-time.

In other news, the Sun reports that Newcastle United are plotting a £10million bid for Tottenham’s out-of-favour winger Andros Townsend next month.

The England international has recently been consigned to Tottenham’s under-21s and it seems highly unlikely that he will be able to play his way back into Pochettino’s plans before the January transfer window opens.

And finally, Pochettino has told the London Evening Standard that he wants to build the Tottenham squad of the future around France international Hugo Lloris.

The 28-year-old has a contract at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2019 and he has become one of the best goalkeepers in Europe in the last few years.
