For Liverpool fans on Sunday afternoon, there was disappointment. For Newcastle fans, elation.
But several Tottenham Hotspur supporters were also paying attention as the Magpies beat the Reds 2-0 at St James' Park. The reason? Newcastle travel to White Hart Lane for their next Premier League clash - and few Tottenham fans seemed surprised they had just picked up a win ahead of the game!
Indeed, it was seen by some as 'Spursy' that a side doing so badly could conveniently achieve a big, confidence-boosting victory before they travel to north London.
The good news for the Tottenham faithful is good performances from Newcastle have led to disastrous defeats the following week so far this season.
This was a very different Newcastle side against Liverpool, however, with Steve McClaren's men working hard, catching the Reds on the counter and showing genuine passion - a very rare thing indeed at St James' Park these days.
But, with Spurs unbeaten since the opening day of the season in the Premier League, the north London side will still be heavy favourites going into the game. There were some sarcastic responses nevertheless from Tottenham fans, as Newcastle shocked the formbooks against Liverpool...
I just knew that Newcastle would a win against Liverpool. How typical is it that Newcastle play us next.. #COYS— Dan Furmage (@DanielFurmage) December 6, 2015

Typically "Spursy" however that Newcastle would pick up a slight run of form just in time for when they visit us next week ... #THFC— Ricky Sacks (@RickSpur) December 6, 2015
