Manchester United and West Ham United drew 0-0 on Saturday but what did the hosts' fans make of the Italian's contribution?
Manchester United fans are getting used to the frustration of seeing their expensively assembled side struggle in front of goal this season, and that continued when Louis van Gaal’s side drew a blank against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
United are great in defence – conceding just one goal at home in the league all season – but at the opposite end of the field they must do better.
One defender who had a great start to life at United only to falter slightly in recent weeks is Italian international Matteo Darmian.
The 26-year-old started against West Ham and he did little wrong but he is not quite the dynamic, attack-minded player he was earlier in the campaign.
The pressure to perform the van Gaal way could be getting to some of the United players; stars who are more used to playing a direct approach now tasked primarily with keeping the ball out at one end rather than over-extending the opposition defence.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what United fans thought of Darmian’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@_magnificent7 coaches make wrong decisions too. Players that started well running out of form. Darmian and Martial good examples— Doctor Feranza (@lekkyfun) December 5, 2015
Smalling again great game, Darmian was good and so was Lingard. Mata and McNair by far the worst on the pitch today.— Denny Jasar (@dennyjasar) December 5, 2015
Darmian reminds me how good Rafael was. Awful game!— Haruna Isiyaku (@isiyakuharuna) December 5, 2015
Darmian has put in so many good crosses. Would be great if someone decided to move towards one of them,— _ (@VanGaald) December 5, 2015
"@OfficialSkinny1: Darmian was great when he first joined but now the philosophy got into his head when he benched him it all went down— Lizzy (@khalifanotwiz) December 5, 2015
Darmian is a fraud, Schweini has been poor since he joined, Mata keeps getting worse and worse, Fellaini is just Fellaini— Colin (@Rojonaldo) December 5, 2015
Darmian looked so promising during his first month at United but for quite a long while now I can't recognise him anymore, incredibly poor.— Lorena (@UtdLorena) December 5, 2015
