Jamie Carragher and Gary Lineker react on Twitter to Newcastle United's win over Liverpool

Newcastle Utd - Gate

Newcastle United beat Liverpool 2-0 at St. James' Park earlier today.

Jamie Carragher says the only positive to come out of Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United was that his Premier League own-goal record has been equalled.

Carragher put the ball in the back of his own net seven times during his playing days, and Martin Skrtel matched that unwanted feat at St. James’ Park.

The Slovakian defender diverted a Georginio Wijnaldum effort into the back of Liverpool’s net, during what was a very disappointing afternoon for anyone who follows the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool were well off the pace at St. James’ Park, as they put in arguably their worst performance under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have been much improved under Klopp so far, but they never got going at St. James’ Park and Newcastle deserved their victory.

The Magpies have struggled throughout the season so far, but they were much improved on Sunday afternoon.

Steve McClaren's side's excellent performance came somewhat out of the blue, and their win continued the trend of unpredictable results which have occurred in the Premier League this season, which Gary Lineker pointed out after the match.
