Ian Wright’s response when asked if Sam Allardyce will keep Sunderland up

Allardyce deflated

Sunderland are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (December 5) that Sunderland will retain their Premier League status for next season.

“I think he will,” said the former England international striker when asked if Sam Allardyce will keep Sunderland up. “The way he has started, he is on the road to doing it, yeah I think he will.”

Wright made the comments before Sunderland’s Premier League game against Arsenal away from home in North London on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats lost the encounter 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium and are now third from bottom in the Premier League table.

The defeat to Arsenal should not be a surprise to anyone, but there were positives in Sunderland’s display.

The Gunners had to work hard in order to pick up the three points, and it shows the fighting spirit that Sam Allardyce has installed in the Sunderland players.

It will not be easy for Sunderland to escape relegation, though, but if Newcastle United and Aston Villa continue to play poorly, then they will have a great chance of doing just that.
