Danny Murphy on which West Ham star was fantastic against Manchester United

Winston Reid was impressive in his side's 0-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Danny Murphy has praised West Ham United star Winston Reid to BBC's Match of the Day, broadcast from 10:30pm December 5th.

The Hammers star was in fine form in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United, putting in a highly impressive defensive display to limit the home side to just one shot on target.

The New Zealand international is very much a key component in Slaven Bilic’s defence, having established himself at the heart of their defence over the years.

And Murphy was impressed by his display, saying the side miss him when he isn’t available.

“Without Sakho, Lanzini and Payet West Ham were going to have to defend well and Reid was absolutely fantastic,” he told Match of the Day.

“He was the leader for them at the back. His positional play is always very good, he always seems to be in the right place, and he will put his body on the line, which is exactly what you need.”

“He just read things so well, he was the main man and I think he’s a big miss when he doesn’t play.”

There is certainly no denying that Reid is very much a key component in this West Ham defence.

Not only is he capable of fine defensive displays, his ability to bring the ball out from the defence and play makes him a key asset for the side going forward.

The draw with United was probably his best display of the campaign yet though, and Hammers fans will be hoping he can continue that form as they eye a spot in Europe next season.
