Former Celtic and Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas suggested on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (December 5) that he has been disappointed with Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic’s performances so far this season.
“I was hopeful for a little bit that Mitrovic might do something for them, but I watched against Crystal Palace last weekend - he didn't even get on,” said Nicholas.
Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer transfer window.
The Serbia international striker arrived in the Premier League with a strong reputation, but he has failed to live up to expectations.
The 21-year-old has scored just two goals and created only four chances in 11 Premier League appearances for Newcastle.
Mitrovic has a pass accuracy of 71% and a shot accuracy of 40%, and has won 30 headers, eight dribbles and three tackles.
The former Partizan Belgrade youngster was dropped from the starting lineup against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Magpies’ last Premier League game and was an unused substitute.
Newcastle, who are second from bottom in the league table, will take on Liverpool at St. James’ Park later today.
