Jimmy Dunne's 85 year record is safe... for now!
While breaking Ruud van Nistelrooy's record against the Dutchman's former club, Manchester United, was all well and good, it was another record that Vardy had set his sights on.
Way back in 1932, Sheffield United's Jimmy Dunne scored in 12 consecutive games – a top flight English football record.
And Vardy had the chance to equal the record when Leicester City travelled to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City on Saturday.
Sadly for Vardy, the 28-year-old was unable to finish any of his several chances – though he did assist in Riyad Mahrez scoring a hat-trick.
Now, with the Foxes striker being a massive Sheffield Wednesday fan, plenty of Sheffield United supporters took to Twitter to have a cheeky pop at him.
