Paul Merson praises Leicester City’s Drinkwater after Swansea win

The midfielder had a fine game in the win over the Swans.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday that there are not many better centre midfielders than Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater at present.

The midfielder has been an ever present for Claudio Ranieri’s side this season and impressed in their rise to the top of the table.

He has formed a formidable partnership in central midfield with summer signing N’Golo Kante, with the duo providing the solid base to allow the side’s attacking players to flourish.

And Merson has praised Drinkwater, saying he wouldn’t be surprised if clubs try to prise him away in future.

“The lad Drinkwater is a very good player,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if somebody come and bought him. There aren’t too many better centre midfield players than him in the country at present."

There is no denying that Drinkwater has been impressive so far this season, with his performances having been a big bonus in their fine start to the season.

The Foxes are now top of the top of the table, with their win over Swansea on Saturday afternoon taking them two points clear of second placed Arsenal and three ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United.

December will be a crucial month in determining where they will finish this season though, with them facing several tough games.

Up next are Chelsea, with visits to Everton and Liverpool and then a home game against Manchester City closing out their 2015.
