Paul Ince reacts positively to talk of a Liverpool title bid

Liverpool are only six points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince feels Liverpool have a chance of winning the title this season if they add one or two players in January, he wrote in his column for 888poker.

The Reds have spent much of the early stages of this campaign languishing in mid-table, drawing five and winning just three of their opening 10 league matches.

However, the arrival of Jurgen Klopp has sparked fresh optimism around Anfield and back-to-back away victories at Chelsea and Manchester City have certainly raised expectations.

Writing in his column for 888poker, Ince feels the Reds could be in for an exciting campaign and adds with the addition of one or two players in January, a title challenge isn’t beyond them.

“This season could be exciting for Liverpool. It is closer than others and there’s a lot of clubs involved,” the former England international wrote.

“If Liverpool keep doing what they’re doing and Klopp brings in a couple of players in January there’s no reason why they can’t be challenging for the title.”

Liverpool’s fine form continued in midweek as they crushed a decent Southampton side 6-1 in the League Cup quarter-finals at St. Mary’s Stadium.

The return to fitness of Daniel Sturridge is a major plus - the striker hitting a brace against the Saints.

While a title challenge may be a little far-fetched this season, there is no reason why the Merseyside outfit can’t finish in the top four at least as their fellow contenders continue to falter.

The Reds sit just three points behind Arsenal in fourth, yet considering the contrasting form of each team, plus the Gunners’ injury crisis, that may not be the case heading into the New Year.
