Arsene Wenger praises Mesut Ozil after win over Sunderland

The German played a big part in his side's 3-1 win over the Black Cats.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Mesut Ozil to talkSPORT after his side’s win over Sunderland on Saturday.

The Gunners were without a number of key men for the clash with the Black Cats, with Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla joining their extensive injury list.

That left the pressure firmly on Ozil’s shoulders, as they look to the German to be their creative cog with so many first team players out injured.

He stepped up to the plate against Sunderland, and Wenger has saluted his skill set, saying he is an exceptional player.

“He was tremendous again today and it’s just a pleasure to watch,” talkSPORT report him as saying.

“We struggled a little bit to find our fluency at times, but when the ball comes to him, he give you hope that something will happen.”

“He’s an exceptional player and gave the for the first goal, it’s very impressive what he is doing.”

The win was a big one for the Gunners as it brought about an end to their recent run of disappointing results in the league.

With Manchester City losing to Stoke City and Manchester United drawing at home to West Ham United, the result took Arsenal to second in the table and just two points behind leaders Leicester City.

It also showed that they are capable of performing without the key players they have lost recently, with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Joel Campbell stepping up for the side.

Arsene Wenger will be hoping they can do that again as they face a crucial set of games over the busy Christmas period.
