“I’ve said it before but no team seems to want to win the Premier League this season. City, Arsenal, United, obviously Chelsea, the way results have been going for these teams, none of them have stamped their authority on the title race,” wrote the former Newcastle striker.
“Liverpool are battling on all fronts under Klopp, going well in the Europa League, semi-final of the Capital One Cup and results are going well in the league, so yes, they can get into the title race.”
Liverpool are outside the top five in the Premier League at the moment, but they are close enough to the leaders to foster realistic hopes of challenging for the title.
Manchester City are probably the favourites, as they have the best squad and also know how to win the league.
Many Premier League observers will back Arsenal for the title, while Manchester United should be included among the contenders.
City, Arsenal and United have better teams and better players than Liverpool, but under new manager Jurgen Klopp the Reds are a revitalised unit.
If the Merseyside can maintain their form over the festive period, then they could find themselves challenging for the Premier League title in the final months of the campaign.
Under Klopp, the Liverpool players have a newfound confidence, and that will be hugely important as the season progresses.
