Martin Keown predicts who would win between Liverpool and Everton if playing now

Liverpool and Everton are both in great form at the moment.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Martin Keown has suggested that Liverpool would defeat Everton if they were to play next week in their current form.

When asked who would win a potential League Cup Final between the two Merseyside clubs, Keown said: “I’m sure on Merseyside they would love to take their rivalry to Wembley. But right now, if they were in that final next week then I think Liverpool would win it. Both teams are flying but Liverpool seem to have a better harmony whereas Everton can be brilliant but need to make sure they do that consistently.”

Liverpool qualified for the semi-finals of the League Cup by thrashing Southampton 6-1 on Wednesday evening, whilst Everton progressed by defeating Championship side Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

The Reds take on Stoke City in the semi-finals, and Everton face up against Manchester City, hoping to continue their great runs by reaching the Final of the tournament.

A Merseyside derby final would be a fantastic occasion, but Keown believes that, right now, Liverpool are the better team than the Toffees.

If they were to play this week, the former Arsenal man believes that Jurgen Klopp would lead his team to victory as the Reds have a better harmony about their squad.

Keown has also criticised the lack of consistency in the Everton squad, as although they can be excellent, they can still suffer from severe lapses in performance - as they proved in the draw against Bournemouth last weekend.

Both halves of Merseyside look to be on the rise this season, and both have ambitions of qualifying for Europe, but right now, Liverpool still look to be the better team.
