Keown likens Jurgen Klopp impact to Arsene Wenger’s at Arsenal

Martin Keown has likened the impact made by Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool to the one Arsene Wenger had Arsenal, in the Daily Mail.

The German replaced Brendan Rodgers at Anfield earlier in the campaign, with the Reds struggling under their former manager.

He has quickly overseen a dramatic reversal in fortune at the club, with them currently flying under his guidance, as evidenced by Wednesday’s 6-1 demolition of Southampton.

The biggest impact he has had is on confidence in the squad, with Liverpool now putting in dramatically improved performances.

And Keown has likened his impact to the one Wenger had when he took over at Arsenal.

“Jurgen Klopp is such a charismatic character and we have all been very refreshed by his honesty and insight,” he told the Daily Mail.

“I’m sure it’s the same with his players. He’s almost disarming with his smile but he is able to re-energise people and he is really bringing out the best in his squad.”

“I saw a similar thing happen at Arsenal when Arsene Wenger arrived, he brought with him a very positive atmosphere. He encouraged every person to be themselves and he skillfully changed the feeling at the club.”

Given the way Klopp has turned things around at Anfield, it is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine them not achieving big things under his guidance.

They now sit sixth in the Premier League table, with 23 points to their name after 14 games, and have already beaten big sides such as Manchester City and Chelsea.

Their current tally leaves them just four points behind Arsenal in fourth place, and only six behind Manchester City and Leicester City, who are joint-top of the standings.

That means they are very much in the title race, even if Klopp would not openly admit it just yet.
