Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ star Robert Pires spoke in glowing terms about Victor Wanyama at an event held in Kenya.
Robert Pires has heaped praise on Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama, going as far as to suggest that the Kenyan should sign for his former club Arsenal.
The Frenchman was speaking during a special visit to the African country and did not hold back when it came to discussing the midfielder’s qualities.
According to a report from BritsInKenya.com, Pires said: “I think for Kenya he is a very good ambassador for this country. He has a good quality and he is doing well in Southampton. I hope and I wish for him that he can join the best team in the premier league in the future, Arsenal.”
Though most certainly a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, the arrival of Wanyama at the Emirates would most likely be welcomed by one and all at Arsenal.
A solid midfielder with Champions League experience to his name from a stint with Celtic, the Kenyan could certainly help fill the gap left in the Gunners’ squad following the recent injury incurred by Francis Coquelin.
And it would appear that the 24-year-old is keen on a move away from St Mary’s, having reportedly handed in a transfer request prior to the most recent deadline - as covered by the Mirror.
Strong in the air and a good tackler, Wanyama could provide the midfield steel Arsenal have, on occasion, lacked in the past.
Pires may have been joking when he suggested he move to the Emirates, but there would definitely be a few Arsenal fans smiling if such a move did come to pass.
