The England international came through the ranks in Portugal.
His performances at White Hart Lane have even taken him into the England senior squad ahead of the European Championships next summer - with a real hope he can make the squad for France.
Dier of course got off to a flying start last season but soon saw his form dip away and he has today discussed why that might have been.
Dier came through the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, where they have a winter break.
That luxury was missing for him last season and he feels it affected his performances. This term he hopes to handle things better.
"I had not played without a winter break until last season. The games come thick and fast and I struggled to cope with it.
“It was the main struggle for me last year, but I have learned from that experience. Hopefully, I can maintain my form going into Christmas now.”
Tottenham fans will certainly hope so. Dier's form has been fantastic this term and the defensive solidity he gives the team has been integral for their forward players being able to express themselves freely and push on high up the pitch.
If Dier keeps up his form throughout the winter and into the summer than Tottenham and England have plenty to look forward to.
