Tottenham Hotspur newbie Heung-min Son comments on the importance of his Bayer Leverkusen spell

Bay Arena - Bayer Leverkusen

The South Korean left the Bundesliga side for Spurs in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur coughed up the cash this summer to get a long-term target into the club. Heung-min Son was linked with Spurs back when he was playing for Hamburg and finally headed to the club this summer from Bayer Leverkusen.

Now the South Korean has been discussing his excellent 2015, for which he was recently named the Asian Player of the Year.

Speaking to the Tottenham website he has made it clear that without his spell at Leverkusen he would not where he is now:

“It’s been an amazing year for me. I scored my first Champions League goal for Bayer Leverkusen against Benfica – I was very happy to score in the Champions League and it was a dream for me to play there.

“The 2014-15 season was very good for me, a good time. I made progress and I’m very thankful to Leverkusen and Tottenham. I had a good time at Leverkusen and without my time there I would not be here.

“I am very happy now to play in the Premier League and at Tottenham Hotspur – the best team!"

It is certainly fair to say that he improved at the BayArena after several seasons at a struggling Hamburg side in the Bundesliga.

He has come to Tottenham a more rounded player who fits in with the hard working ethos of Mauricio Pochettino.

His season has had a mini bump recently after picking up an injury but now he is back in action he will be hoping to further justify his sizeable price-tag as Tottenham go for glory.
