Report: Steve McClaren plans big changes for Newcastle clash with Liverpool

Steve McClaren

The manager could bring back four forgotten Magpies stars to try and turn things around.

Steve McClaren is planning to make big changes to his struggling Newcastle side for the weekend clash with Liverpool, reports the Chronicle.

McClaren’s side are currently second bottom of the Premier League table, having lost their last two games on the bounce, conceding eight goals in the process.

The last result was a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace, led by former manager Alan Pardew, with the players being roundly criticised for their performance.

And that has led to McClaren considering making big changes to his team for this weekend’s clash against in form Liverpool, reports the Chronicle.

First up could be a return for defender Mike Williamson, who was recently recalled from a loan spell at Wolves following an injury to Jamaal Lascelles in the loss to Palace.

Youngster Kevin Mbabu could also be in line for a start, with him having impressed earlier in the season when given a chance.

Forgotten winger Sylvain Marveaux could also be in line for a recall, with the manager having run the rule over him in training this week

Up front, Siem De Jong is also back in with a shout with the other forwards struggling to hit the back of the net with any sort of regularity, a big problem for a side currently in the bottom three.
