The midfielder has been linked with an exit after falling out of favour with the Serie A side.
The midfielder only joined the Italian side from Atletico Madrid in the summer, with Stevan Savic heading in the other direction.
He has struggled for action since then though, losing his place in the team to Milan Badelj and Matias Vecino.
That has led to him becoming unsettled with the Serie A side, and he may now look to make a move away from the club, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
Indeed, he could move in the January transfer window such is the situation, and there would be several clubs who would be interested in him.
Among them are Liverpool, who may look to add potential reinforcements in Jurgen Klopp’s first transfer window in charge at Anfield.
A return to Spain could also be on the cards, with Sevilla interested, while Ligue 1 side Marseille would also be keen on a deal for the 28-year-old.
As yet, there is no price quoted on any potential sale, although it is unlikely it would be a big fee.
