Liverpool produced one of the most one-sided displays of the season so far to demolish Southampton 6-1 in the Capital One Cup quarter final.
It was even more remarkable they did so with a weakened team, which featured teenage full-back Connor Randall.
The 20-year-old made his debut in the competition earlier in the season against Bournemouth, and retained his place in the team last night, with injuries in defence mounting up.
He suffered an inauspicious start, left flat footed as Sadio Mane put Southampton 1-0 up in the first minute, and was booked soon after.
The defender did not hide, and grew in confidence as the game went on, looking increasingly comfortable with his role.
Jurgen Klopp will not have looked at the display and thought that he wants to throw Randall into Premier League action with any urgency, but there were certainly signs that the prospect can be a good player for the club.
The game will have been a great experience for the defender, and just being involved on such a big night will do wonders for his belief in his own ability and desire to kick on.
Here is a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to his performance...
Great win. Didn't hear much from the Conor Randall haters after the 1st 10 minutes or so. Tits. #LFC— Neil Duckett (@neilduck8) December 2, 2015
Credit to Klopp for keeping Randall on after a bad start from the youngster. Will do wonders for his confidence. #lfc— Edward J. Milner (@MrEdwardMilner) December 2, 2015
Randall is not ready for first team action. #LFC— What A Hit Son (@anonymousLFCfan) December 2, 2015
