Could the Tottenham Hotspur boss be resigned to not being able to bring in the right players next month?
Spurs have been flying in the league this season and are undefeated in their last 13 matches, and such were the results last weekend that Tottenham find themselves just four points behind current leaders Manchester City with 14 games played.
Some Tottenham fans feel they already have the squad to make significant waves this season and beyond, while others believe Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy will need to dip into the transfer market next month to take them to the next level.
But the manager’s recent comments suggest he could be preparing the fans for a relatively uneventful period directly after Christmas.
In comments published by London 24, the Tottenham boss said, “It’s never easy to sign players in January. With the balance we have we need to be careful with who we bring in. The level we’re at now means it’s not easy to find a player that can improve us.”
In those three sentences it is easy to think Pochettino already knows what January will bring, that signing a player for the sake of it is not on his agenda and additions midway through a campaign are as much a risk as a solution.
Only time will tell, but it would be no great surprise if January was a quiet month at White Hart Lane, at least off the pitch.
