The former Toffee does, however, think his old side are missing one crucial ingredient.
The Blues have made a strong start to the season, and now find themselves in the semi finals of the Capital One Cup after beating Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
That game saw Gerard Deulofeu once again making the headlines, as he scored one and set up the other for Romelu Lukaku in a 2-0 win.
The Spaniard has been very much the star of the show for Roberto Martinez’s side, who have been playing excellent football of late, and Tim Cahill says they are on a 'different level' these days.
“I’m always watching Everton; the football they play is on a different level now,” he told talkSPORT.
“[However] it can frustrate you at times because you’re waiting for that sliding tackle or changing moment that we had back in the day.
“We had players that could mix it up, and that’s probably what they are lacking.”
Since Martinez inherited the reins at Goodison, it has often been a criticism of the side that they are weak defensively under him.
That was evident against Bournemouth last weekend, with them throwing away a 2-0 lead, to go 2-2 and the conceding again when they went 3-2 up late on.
They’re not lacking in players who can put themselves about, though, with James McCarthy very much playing that role in the side.
