Stoke City beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in the Capital One Cup last night.
Stoke City supporters have been very impressed by Ibrahim Afellay’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup last night.
Stoke beat Wednesday 2-0 to book their place in the semi-finals of the cup competition, and Afellay ran the show.
Not only did the former Barcelona man open the scoring for his side, before Phil Bardsley added a second, but he also was totally composed in possession throughout.
Stoke were the dominant side in the tie, and they showed their Premier League class against a dangerous opponent in Sheffield Wednesday.
Afellay was the start of the show, and his performance has led to calls for him to be included more regularly, as he has struggled to break into the Potters’ first team since arriving in the summer transfer window.
The Dutch international has regularly been left on the bench by Mark Hughes, but he showed his class yesterday.
Afellay will now be hoping to stay in the starting line-up at the weekend, when Stoke take on current league-leaders Manchester City.
Here is the best reaction from Stoke fans on social media site Twitter to Afellay’s performance last night.
I think Afellay was so good last night we'd be daft not to include him on Saturday, but where?

Good solid performance by the whole team especially the trio of Van Ginkel, Geoff and Afellay - all staked claims for further starts #scfc

Job well done boys. Was worried about the team selection beforehand but I needn't have. Good goals by Afellay and Bardsley #scfc
