Southampton midfielder Steven Davis on Wembley ambition

The Northern Irishman is hopeful of a Wembley appearance this season.

Southampton take on Liverpool this evening at St Mary's Stadium in a Capital One Cup quarter final tie.

Saints fans have not enjoyed cup football in recent years. They made it this far in the League Cup last season but have not been in the final four of one of the two major domestic competitions since making the FA Cup final in 2003.

It is a while since Southampton went on such a good cup run and there is no doubt that they are hoping to continue in the competition.

Of course they face an in form Liverpool side under the management of charismatic German Jurgen Klopp.

However one man is certain that Southampton can head to Wembley. Steven Davis has had a positive season so far for both club and country and told the Belfast Telegraph of his Wembley dream today.

He stated:

"If we win this we are in the semi-finals of the competition so there is plenty of incentive for us.

"All of us would love to go all the way and reach a Wembley final. That would be fantastic for the team and all our fans."

Davis is certainly in good nick. He has scored five times this season after a previous barren spell. He and his Southampton team-mates are going to need to be on their best form this evening if they are to stop the Klopp train from running straight through the South Coast.
