Former Manchester City player Rodney Marsh says the time has come for the Premier League leaders to give Kelechi Iheanacho a proper run in the team, in comments on Twitter.
The Nigeria international has impressed in his few appearances this season, scoring the winner at Crystal Palace in the league and helping the club reach the League Cup semi-finals.
His ability to really stretch teams makes him an ideal Sergio Aguero replacement, and former player Rodney Marsh feels he should now be considered a starter ahead of fellow striker Wilfried Bony.
Time has come for Kelechi to get a run- If not alongside Aguero in twin striker role, then definitely when Aguero is out- Bony glue— Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) diciembre 1, 2015
The 19-year-old has really made a decent impression this season, handing boss Manuel Pellegrini a further option for when Aguero inevitably misses games through niggling injuries.
Bony has been brought in to give City a different dimension upfront, yet one can’t hap but feel his target-man style doesn’t really suit Pellegrini’s side when they try and play at real pace.
Iheanacho boasts qualities to go in behind the defence, and his latest substitute appearance against Hull City sparked a late rampage from the hosts as they went from 1-0 to 4-0 within minutes.
The 6ft 1icnh striker turned in Raheem Sterling’s cross to put the League Cup tie beyond Hull, and his movement later created the space for Kevin de Bruyne to hit two more on the way to a 4-1 win.
Whether he is ready to properly feature for City remains to be seen, yet there is no doubt there is an abundance of potential there and City have some player on their hands.
