The Blues beat Middlesbrough 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Blues were 2-0 winners at the Riverside on Tuesday evening in their Capital One Cup quarterfinal clash.
The game was yet another impressive display from key duo Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku, with both players bagging a goal on the evening.
The first came from the Spaniard as he curled past the Boro keeper, with him turning provider for Lukaku’s headed second.
And while Martinez says they were exceptional goals, it was the clean sheet that pleased him most.
“I thought we did that really well, especially after what happened after the weekend when we went 2-0 up,” he told evertonfc.com.
“It is a terrific feeling to be in the semi-final, the two goals were exceptional pieces of quality which you can never take for granted.”
“After going 2-0 up, to keep the clean sheet was probably the most pleasing aspect.”
While Martinez was delighted with his side’s defensive display, it will be the attacking duo that is surely pleasing him most.
Lukaku now has 13 goals to his name in all competitions, with six in his last five games alone.
Deulofeu has been the side’s main creator, with nine assists in all competitions so far, most of them for Lukaku.
Martinez will be hoping that they can continue to flourish together as he eyes a trip to Wembley.
