Rio Ferdinand names Sergio Aguero as the best current striker he's played against

Old Trafford

The former Manchester United star has praised the Manchester City front-man.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about the toughest current striker he ever came up against with his comments later published by Goal.com.

The ex-England international has pitted his wits against some of the very best front-men to have played the game but he reserved special praise for Manchester City player Sergio Aguero – a man whose influence at the Etihad Stadium is something United fans will not want to be reminded of.

Giving a motivational talk for the FA, the former United centre-back said, “For me now, at the moment, when he’s fit, Aguero’s the best number nine in terms of playing against, he’s a nightmare.

“Because he’s small, stocky, strong, quick as well and will go both ways.”

Aguero has scored nine goals in 14 appearances for City this season and he has a total of 116 goals in 178 matches for the Blues.

That is an outstanding record and one wonders just how many more he would have added to that tally if he had not been blighted by injuries.

Now back and available for Manuel Pellegrini’s men, the Argentine international will be key if City are to go on and win one or more of the four trophies they are still in contention for this season.
