Report: Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic offered deal by Inter Milan

Ivanovic is out of contract in the summer and is reportedly yet to receive a new contract offer from Chelsea.

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic is to be offered a two-year contract by Serie A side Inter Milanaccording to a report in the Daily Mirror.

Ivanovic is out of contract in the summer and is allowed to speak to clubs from abroad from January as his deal runs down.

The Serbian has not had the best of times this season with Chelsea, as he has been found wanting on several occasions as the Premier League champions have endured a very poor start to their campaign, which sees them currently sat in 14th place in the table.

The report states that Ivanovic has yet to be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge and had hoped to have extended his stay at the club by now.

From the looks of things, Ivanovic still seems highly regarded by Jose Mourinho, and there seems to be no more emphatic way of showing that than to continue handing him the captain's armband in the absence of John Terry.

There have been times this season when Ivanovic has looked very much off the pace, and perhaps a move to a league with a slower style will not be such a bad idea for the player.

One would think if Chelsea wanted Ivanovic to continue his association with the club then a new deal will be placed on the table very soon, but letting him go may be part of a strategy from the club to refresh the squad after a poor start to the season in order for them to come back much stronger during the next campaign.
