Liverpool travel to the South Coast to take on Southampton this evening, and Ray Parlour has told talkSPORT (aired Wednesday, 08:30) that he predicts a victory for the Reds in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Parlour said: “This should be a really good game. I’m going to go slightly towards Liverpool for this one. I’m going to go 2-1 [to Liverpool].”
Liverpool head into the game on the back of a hard-fought victory over Swansea, with Jurgen Klopp’s impact at Anfield finally having an effect.
The German boss has turned around how his team are playing, and they look ready to take on any team in the division, and potentially come out with a result.
Southampton sit three points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table, heading into this League Cup fixture after losing 3-1 to Manchester City on Saturday.
The result flattered City, and the Saints really should have got at least a point from the game, but Parlour cannot see Ronald Koeman's men getting a result this evening.
The former Arsenal midfielder believes that Liverpool have just enough quality to give them the edge, despite being the away side, and he has predicted a narrow 2-1 victory for Klopp’s side.
A victory for Liverpool will place them in the semi-final draw to be held following the game, with the victors joining Manchester City, Stoke City and Everton in the final four.
