Teenage midfielder Gedion Zelalem grabbed an assist as Rangers beat Dumbarton 4-0 in the Scottish Championship.
Zelalem is on loan from Arsenal, and arrived at the club hoping to play regularly and start fulfilling his potential.
The youngster's talent has been talked about since he broke into Arsenal's under-21 side at just 16-years-old, and the challenge of adjusting to the physical nature of first team football has been evident early on in his Rangers spell.
Zelalem, 18, was making his 13th appearance of the campaign, and provided his sixth assist, in front of a crowd of 37,000 fans at Ibrox.
His place in the Rangers side is not assured despite his production. Manager Mark Warburton has talented midfielder Jordan Thompson vying for a spot too, and he was also impressive after coming on as a substitute.
After signing in the summer after being released by Manchester United, the 18-year-old is looking like a promising prospect, and as a permanent player rather than a loanee, they have more invested in him.
Zelalem is yet to convince entirely, and with his loan spell expiring in January there is a little uncertainty about what the future at the club holds for him, especially with Arsenal's midfield options decimated by injuries.
Early on in the game there were Rangers fans on Twitter expressing their reservations over the midfielder.
Zelalem to scared to take responsibility— Scott (@ScottWi1son) December 1, 2015
Zelalem might turn into a good player but at the moment he seems to struggle to see a pass— Davy (@Davgt5) December 1, 2015
Zelalem needs to play with the 20's & loads of gym time, or the first plane back to Arsenal. A gust of wind would blow him over #frustrating— R44B OC (@Rocontop) December 1, 2015
Teams are wise to our style of play , need to mix it up a bit. I don't know why zelalem stars every week he's pish— bluenoze (@albl75) December 1, 2015
Their view though is not entirely shared, especially as the game went on. Zelalem is not the complete footballer just yet, but there is a very good chance he grows into an outstanding midfielder.
Rangers are a side who themselves are growing, hoping to earn promotion back to the Scottish Premiership and win titles. If there is any way for Zelalem to continue with them, they would be wise to try and carry it on.
